Text message program
Clinics using GitoCare can send appointment reminders, confirmations, and scheduling updates by text message. This page describes exactly what that program is, how a patient joins it, and how they leave it.
We only text a patient who has opted in. Consent is recorded against the patient’s record and enforced in software — it is not a setting a clinic can switch off for one patient and forget about. Consent is never a condition of receiving care.
1. What the program sends
Appointment reminders, appointment confirmations, and scheduling updates from the patient’s healthcare provider. That is the whole program.
We do not send clinical details by text, and we do not send marketing or promotional messages under this program.
2. How a patient opts in
Consent is always the patient’s own choice. It is never on by default, never bundled into another agreement, and never required to receive care. Every route records the date the consent was given.
There are four routes, and the same disclosure is shown at each one:
- a. Online booking. While booking an appointment, the patient answers “How would you like appointment reminders?” and chooses Email, Text, Both, or None. Choosing Text or Both is the consent.
- b. Digital intake. The same question and the same four choices appear on the intake form the patient completes on their own phone or on a clinic tablet.
- c. Check-in kiosk. A patient checking in on a clinic tablet is asked “How should we remind you?” with the same four choices, in English or Spanish.
- d. The patient tells the front desk. Staff confirm the mobile number and record the choice on the chart. The same disclosure is shown to the staff member making the entry.
The disclosure shown at every one of those points:
“Choosing text is your consent to appointment texts from GitoCare on behalf of your clinic. Message frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out at any time or HELP for help. Not required for care.”
No text is ever sent without a recorded consent. This is enforced by the software itself, not by policy or training: a send request for a patient with no consent on file is refused before it reaches a carrier. Withdrawing consent by replying STOP takes effect immediately and needs no action by the clinic.
3. Message frequency
Frequency varies with appointment activity — typically a small number of messages around each scheduled visit.
4. Cost
Message and data rates may apply. Neither GitoCare nor the clinic charges the patient for these messages; the patient’s mobile carrier’s standard rates apply.
5. How to stop
Reply STOP to any message. UNSUBSCRIBE, QUIT, END and OPTOUT are also accepted. The patient receives one confirmation that no further messages will be sent, and nothing further is sent.
A patient can also ask the clinic to switch reminders off. Opting out of text messages never affects care; email and phone contact continue.
6. How to get help
Reply HELP to any message, contact the clinic directly, or email support@gitocare.com.
7. How the number is used
Mobile numbers are used to deliver these messages and for no other purpose. Mobile numbers and message content are not sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing. See our Privacy Policy and Terms Text messages.
8. Carriers
Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Supported carriers may change without notice.
